Navigating Stories: My Journey Through Fiction, Poetry, and Recovery
Navigating Stories: My Journey Through Fiction, Poetry, and Recovery

As I continue to explore my voice and share my story, I've found comfort and growth through poetry, personal reflections, and storytelling. Today, I want to share a bit about the projects I'm working on and offer some advice for those just starting

their writing journey.

Current Projects

1. Fiction Book: I Am Sang

The project that started it all is my fiction book, I Am Sang. This story weaves together identity, resilience, and transformation themes, reflecting my journey of finding myself through fiction. It’s a project that challenges me creatively and pushes me to explore storytelling in new ways. I’m excited to see where the narrative takes me as I continue developing the story.

 2. Poetry Anthology: Resonance

One of my most cherished projects is my poetry anthology, Resonance. It’s a collection that reflects my thoughts, emotions, and growth through different seasons of life. I’ve written five poems so far and am working on creating more before finalizing the collection. The vision for the anthology is still taking shape, but each poem is a piece of my journey, resonating with themes of strength, faith, and vulnerability.

3. Newsletter: Sharing My Journey

Last month I launched my first newsletter, where I opened up about my journey into writing midlife and shared some of my current projects. It’s been both exciting and nerve-wracking to put my thoughts out there, but the response has been encouraging. I plan to continue sharing updates, insights, and reflections through future editions.

4. Writing Through My Compulsive Behavior Journey

Another meaningful project I’m working on is writing about my journey through the steps and traditions that many people with compulsive behaviors have taken. Each chapter focuses on one step and one tradition, blending personal reflection with the lessons I’m learning along the way. I’m currently focusing on Step 3 and Tradition 3, grappling with how to let God into the process.

5. Writing Contest Update

I’m still waiting for the deadline, which is tomorrow, March 31, 2025. I’m excited and terrified to see the results. I can’t wait to share them with you all.

Advice for New Authors

If you’re just starting your writing journey, I want to share a few things I’ve learned since starting my writing journey:

  • Embrace Your Voice: Don’t worry about sounding like other writers. Your unique perspective is what makes your work stand out.

  • Be Consistent: Whether it’s writing daily or setting aside specific time slots each week, consistency builds momentum.

  • Stay Open to Growth: Writing isn’t always easy, and it’s okay to stumble. Learn from each piece, each draft, and each moment of doubt.

  • Find Your Community: Sharing your work with others can be daunting, but finding supportive readers and fellow writers can make the process less lonely and more fulfilling.

Closing Thoughts

Writing has opened doors to self-expression and healing that I never knew existed. Whether it’s poetry, storytelling, or sharing my recovery journey, I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect with others through words. Thank you for supporting me on this path. I’d love to hear about your writing journey, too—feel free to share in the comments or reach out!

Until next time, keep writing and keep exploring.
